3 Runway-Inspired Hairstyles for When You Just Can’t With the Heat

There are so many things to love about August. The Ohio days are long and lazy, the sunlight is so golden, it’s practically filtered, and we seem to savor summer a bit more knowing it’s on its way out. The only problem? It’s still hot—so hot—and we just can’t.

At Arz, we understand the daily battle you’re waging with the heat index—particularly when it comes to hair. While we can’t instantly banish humidity, we can give you a taste of fall (and better hair days to come) with four hairstyles inspired by the Fall/Winter 2015 runways—all of which conveniently double as hot weather solutions.

THE UPDATED CLASSIC

The F/W ’15 runways saw just about every iteration of the ponytail we thought possible. From pointedly slept-in at Miu Miu to sleekly sideswept at Dior, this classic and its progeny reigned.

Our favorite take on the trend, though, came from Carolina Herrera, where models’ manes were slicked back and secured with a metallic leather tie. It adds an element of intention to the style and best of all, ensures it will survive even the most brutal late-summer humidity.

To recreate, run a small amount of Aveda Confixor Liquid Gel throughout the hair by the crown of your head. Comb hair back and secure at the neck with a clear elastic. Wrap with a ribbon or tie of your choice to create the effect—or take a shortcut and try a metal ponytail cuff.

THE THROWBACK

Headbands made more than one surprise appearance on the F/W ’15 runways. Models sported luxe leather at Proenza Schouler and Space Age metallic at Honor, while the ladies of Chanel donned simple black satin, emanating the uniquely French blend of elegance and charm synonymous with the brand.

For your own take, try this embellished Namrata Joshipura option to emanate late summer vibes. Or, opt for something multi-seasonal—we love this simple leather band from Jennifer Behr. To ensure pesky flyaways don’t escape, run a bit of emulsified Aveda Control Paste throughout your hair  for added hold and grip.

THE NEW UP-DO

The best part of the proliferation of up-dos that graced the F/W runways is the fact that the majority are more than easy to recreate on your own. See: Isabel Marant’s finger-raked knots, Altuzarra’s done-up take on 2014’s wet look, and, our personal favorite, Vera Wang’s un-fussily swept-up twist.

To recreate, prep hair with Aveda Thickening Tonic. Add a touch of texture and lift at the roots with Control Paste, and sweep your hair into a twist or bun at the nape of your neck. Secure with your usual ratio of bobby pins to hair ties, and tell everyone you strutted right in from the runway.

Cool air is coming—promise. We hope this helps you get there fashionably.
